MSPA's Efforts for the 2011/2012 School Year

Strategic Planning

What is strategic planning?  Why do we do it?  How often should we do it?  Strategic planning is a process by which an organization determines its direction.  In other words, it determines its vision, mission, core values, and strategic objectives.  NASP completes this process about every five years.  It is about a two to three year process for a large organization such as NASP.  I am hoping to accomplish this process during my presidency with the help of you and the MSPA Board. I have charged the Professional Standards Committee with fulfilling this task. Soon you will be receiving a survey to fill out regarding your perspective on MSPA's current and future efforts. Please take the time to fill out the survey so that we can utilize your feedback to complete MSPA's strategic planning process.  Once we have the survey results we will be drafting MSPA's vision, mission, core values, and strategic plan. These will help guide the short-term and long-term work of the MSPA Executive Board.

NASP Practice Model

MSPA leaders are currently in the process of informing various state leaders of the 2010 NASP Practice Model. In January, we will be doing a presentation for leaders at the Maryland State Education Association.  We have arranged for a NASP representative to join us for that presentation! We also look forward to planning a leadership conference to include various stakeholders in leadership to join us.  If you are a leader and have an interest in this conference please e-mail me at:  president@mspaonline.org

Assistance to Locals

At the MSPA Executive Board Meeting in November, I created a new Ad-Hoc Committee called Assistance to Locals. The purpose of this committee is to support local school psychology organizations in building their capacity for grass roots efforts and providing the support to school psychologists and the profession at the local level.   I invision this committee working on several tasks. To start, this committee is working on contacting local representatives from each school psychology organization along with a representative from the jurisdiction that does not have an organization.  Each representative will have the opportunity to fill out a survey to provide feedback about the status of their organization, the efforts that they are involved in, and the support that they need.  Once the information has been collected and reviewed, the committee will create an action plan for assistance to the locals if there is an identified need.  The committe also plans to provide resources on the website.

If you have any interest in joining an MSPA committee such as those discussed above, please e-mail me at president@mspaonline.org
